My characters often inhabit the psychic space as those in Sally Rooney’s novels. They’re “Standing in the last lighted room before the darkness, bearing witness to something.” Other characters relish playing in the sandbox of satire and expressive joy. Tonal narratives whiplash between grief and hope. How do we live lives of solidarity in this violent, gorgeous, fragile planet of ours?

GRATITUDE IS MY OPERATIVE LANDSCAPE

The first is deep gratitude for my adopted homeland Hawaiʻi Nei. Although I am not kanaka maoli, I treasure these islands. I hope to nourish the values that make Hawaiʻi Nei our shared blessing. The second gratitude is that I’ve been allowed to take my filmmaking shot in my own third act.
